Orange Coconut Zebra Cake

DSC_0556Bangalore at its best! I will not mind to get stuck in traffic jam,  if I come across these kind of streets! I will enjoy the continues fall of flower petals and will munch Orange coconut zebra cake….

We may get Seasonal Oranges  only for few more days… why to leave the opportunity?

Orange coconut chocolate zebra cake !

Getting ready with ingredients!


I love to mix Orange juice with sugar to get more flavor in my cakes and breads.

Remember what we have done for Orange Pound Cake?


Keep it aside

Mix all Flour, Semolina, Coconut shredded, Baking Powder.

Whisk it!DSC_0163

Mix eggs, vegetable oil, flavored sugar, vanilla extract beat it until it become light and pale

Fold in dry ingredients

Divide into two portion, one will be chocolate flavor and other will be just orange!


Pour first white batter into the center of prepared  pan ,then brown batter, then white so on until batter finishes …I just enjoy doing this part. DSC_0201

Swirl it with a fork DSC_0206Bake it !

Remove it from pan!


 Orange Coconut Chocolate Zebra Cake

Adapted slightly from  Mayaskitchen


  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup wheat semolina
  • ½ cup coconut (shredded)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup sugar + 2 tablespoon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoon of warm water


  1. Preheat oven to 300F (150C)
  2. Prepare pan with butter /oil or cover with parchment paper.
  3. Mix ½ cup of sugar and orange juice
  4. In a bowl, mix dry ingredients (flour, wheat semolina, coconut, baking powder)
  5. In a mixer bowl beat egg, flavored sugar,Oil, vanilla extract until it becomes pale.
  6. Combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients and mix well until combined
  7. Divide the batter into two bowls
  8. Mix warm water with cocoa powder and 2 tablespoons of sugar . Make it a smooth paste
  9. Mix cocoa powder mix into one bowl of batter
  10. Now pour some white batter into the center of prepared pan, then brown batter and so on
  11. Place in the pre-heated oven for about 25- 35 minutes or a toothpick/skewer comes out clean
  12. Wait for 10-15 minutes to remove it from pan.

  2. Looks so yummy….I had tried zebra and marble cake but not mixed white orange juice….want to try…thanks for sharing the recipe….The baking pan is awesome what material is that and from where u bought????….Very nive presentation toooo….

    1. Yes Anita, Orange Coconut brings a different flavour to it. It is Cast iron pan. I just love cast iron skillets. It is not available in store. You can get it on-line or ask your relative to get it from US 🙂

  3. Yummy…is the only word which comes just after watching this zebra cake…hopefully I will get a bite before the orange season goes….
